New Fund at the Quebec CHU Foundation; PetalMD gets involved

Martin Simard, researcher and assistant director of the oncology division for the CHU de Québec Université Laval – Research Centre and professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Laval University, announced on June 19th the creation of the Fund for cancer research in Quebec, which is attached to the Quebec CHU Foundation. He also unveiled the launch of their first fundraising campaign: Ensemble, nous pouvons le vaincre! (Together, we can conquer cancer!).

During this announcement, Mr. Simard yielded the floor to Patrice Gilbert, CEO of PetalMD, who will be the Honorary President of this first event for the fundraising campaign. The fundraising evening will be held October 10th, 2019, at the Quebec City Convention Centre, who is also one of the event sponsors.

This first event is already accumulating a lot of enthusiasm as major ambassadors are agreeing to join Mr. Gilbert; in particular Julie Bédard, President and Chief Executive Officer for the Quebec Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Carl Viel, President and CEO of Québec International.


Official Launch of the Quebec Cancer Research Fund

In 2018, Statistics Canada stated that about one in two Canadians will develop cancer within their lifetime. Attached to the Quebec CHU Foundation, the Fund will raise money that will be invested 100% in cancer research being done here in Quebec City.

"With this fund, we will be able to amass donations so that teams can acquire state-of-the-art equipment, recruit researchers and students from around the world, and develop innovative research projects that will lead to significant advances in our fight against cancer. The opportunity to bring together researchers, physicians and patients in one place through the construction of a brand new research centre attached to the new hospital complex at the Quebec CHU - Laval University will establish here, in Quebec, an extraordinary centre for cancer research for the benefit of our population."
